Space Marines

I realized that I've been painting models for a little while now but I don't own any official Games Workshop Space Marines, so I bought some Space Marine Primaris Intercessors and decided to get started.
Maybe I'm a bit boring but I do like the idea of having some Space Marines that look mostly official in my collection, so I decided to go for a very slight spin on the official Ultramarine colour scheme, with Silver trim instead of gold. I also wanted to have the guns in their retro red colour that I remember from when I was little instead of the more modern black style. Space Marines shouldn't look too realistic.
Painting the Test Model
- Assemble the model
- Apply a texture paint to the base. I used a Vallejo Diorama FX. I've had a big jar of this for ages and I used it for almost all of my bases. The colour doesn't matter as you'll be priming the whole model in black next.
- Prime the whole model with a black model primer
- Paint shoulder pads and eye sockets in Army Painter Fanatic Brigade Grey
- Basecoat the armour with Two Thin Coats Marine Blue
- Paint weapon with Games Workshop Leadbelcher
- Paint the base Army Painter Fanatic Deep Grey
- Paint inner parts of the arms and legs with Army Painter Fanatic Deep Grey
- Slop Games Workshop Nuln Oil on the chest eagle, weapon, inner parts of the limbs and the base.
- More carefully, apply Games Workshop Nuln Oil to the various bits of armour trim
- Drybrush silver on weapon
- Tidy up any blue and white bits that you covered with the Nuln Oil wash above
- Paint Army Painter Speedpaint Blood Red on weapon (with Army Painter Speedpaint Leather Brown on the handle). I like using speedpaints to colour metals, I feel like it keeps the metallic sheen and "texture" while also being really, really easy to do. In fact, painting Zealot Yellow over Silver is my favorite way to do gold colours.
- Paint a thin layer of Army Painter Speedpaint Ork Green speedpaint on eyes
- Apply edge highlighting
